The project consists of revitalizing the region of Praça da Sé, center (point zero) of São Paulo. The recovery of the site focuses on two premises: the constant use of space and its surroundings (during the day and night), and to increase the physical and visual permeability of the area that is severely affected by sudden unevenness and obstacles.
Aiming at the most effective solution, the proposal also consists of an urban study to identify façades that could house services and shops facing the street, possible lots that could become centers of reference (such as cultural center, museum, etc.) and buildings in a state of abandonment that may have incentives for housing, hotels, etc.
Without structurally affecting the preexisting area, the project accomplishes a kind of clothing that fits according to the levels, openings and landscaping of both the square and the subway. This new mesh smoothes the topography by setting unit to the space. The structure below uses prefabricated materials that function as tables where the forms of modeling of the floor would be assembled. This system seeks to soften the weight over the most part of the structure of the subway station, and besides that, to uphold for greater agility of the construction site and logistic of the use of the space on everyday situations.
The project will benefit the entire population of the city of São Paulo, as well as the tourists who place it as one of their main destinations while they are here. The transformations generated contribute not only to the physical space itself but to a new relationship between the inhabitant and the center of São Paulo. A living center, operating in a place like Marco Zero, tends to be a key point in reference to the other central urban spaces. Density and its relation to public urban infrastructure and the plurality with balanced uses in buildings tend to be more recognized and reacheable to citizen understanding.
